Taster week
In the first week of each course series, all classes are open for you to try out, no strings attached. Take your time and find the class that suits you.
Bright, spacious, with a sprung floor and a high ceiling: here’s where to find us – and everything you need to know for your class.
Our lovely, bright studio with 140 m² of sprung floor and a high ceiling is at TanzHalle Freiburg, Markgrafenstraße 38. Most classes and workshops take place in Room 3 (“Saal 3”): turn right past the cloakroom and follow the corridor to the back.

We’re easy to reach by bike, by tram and by car.

Separate dance shoes are best – for the floor and for your dancing: flat, light and comfortable, ideally with leather soles so they slide well. Canvas shoes and all kinds of retro-style leather shoes are popular with swing dancers, but lots of other shoes work too. You can order them online (e.g. from Aris Allen or Swing and Slide), or buy comfy sneakers and have a cobbler put a leather sole on them.
Important: street shoes are not allowed in the dance rooms!
Lindy Hop can make you sweat. So wear light clothes, please use deodorant, and bring a fresh T-shirt for the way home. You’re welcome to bring your water bottle into the dance room.
Lindy Hop is a social dance: at parties it’s completely normal to dance with lots of different people, even ones you’ve never met. That’s why we rotate partners regularly in class. You learn to adapt to different people, you lead or follow much better – and you get to know everyone in the class. So even if you signed up as a couple, you won’t dance together the whole time.
We work hard to keep classes balanced – we even bring in extra people to help out. So if you can’t make it, please let us know! If you signed up as a couple and one of you can’t come, the other is still welcome to come alone. If there are two classes at your level, you’re welcome to join the other one to catch up.
Can’t stop dancing at home? Here’s some swing to practise to:
Go dancing! You’ll learn fastest – and have the most fun – if you go to social dances regularly right from the start. You can easily go on your own, even as a beginner: everyone dances with everyone, and nobody has to wait to be asked. Just go and grab a dance partner! You’ll find all the dates in our calendar. To connect with the other Lindy Hoppers in Freiburg, join the “Lindy Hop Freiburg” Facebook group and Telegram group.

Pick a class – or start with a beginners’ weekend. We look forward to seeing you in Room 3.
