Stephen “Steve” Kellett
- Founder
- Lindy Hop
- Solo Jazz
Steve’s love affair with Lindy Hop spans several years and continents. He has tried to get over his addiction to swing music and dance, but it still takes up most of his time. In his classes he wants to infect you with his enthusiasm for this unique dance and music style. With his endless energy and enthusiasm, he is the soul of the school.
Monika “Moni” Ecker
Moni has loved music and dance for as long as she can remember – as a professional musician and music teacher, as a eurhythmics teacher and, for some time now, as a passionate Lindy Hopper. She has been part of The Lindy Corner from the very start, teaches some classes with Steve and takes care of most of the admin: if you get an email from us, it’s usually from Moni. Moni and Steve have two children. Because they don’t want parents to disappear from the dance floor, they organise Swing Baby Swing classes and socials that kids can come along to.
Fernando Mateos
- Lindy Hop
- Charleston
- Blues
- Balboa
Fernando is one of the most experienced Lindy Hoppers in Freiburg: for many years he has been going to socials and workshops, tirelessly polishing his technique, and he knows an endless repertoire of moves. With Lindy Hop, Blues and Balboa he covers the whole spectrum, from veeery slow to extremely fast. Don’t be put off by his look of deep concentration – dancing with Fernando is great fun! He teaches Tune your Technique and Charleston.
Nina Jasmin Geiger
Nina has always had a soft spot for the music, culture and literature of the early 20th century – it all started with The Jungle Book and The Aristocats. When, years later, she discovered that people all over the world still dance to swing music today, her life changed overnight. Although she now spends most of her time dancing, you’ll also find her on and behind Freiburg’s theatre stages. Nina also loves solo dancing, whether Authentic Jazz, hip-hop or Afro-Cuban.
Piret Kleis
Piret has been dancing since she was a little girl in Estonia: first in her grandmother’s living room, as a teenager on bigger dance floors in Tallinn with modern dance, and while studying in Edinburgh she tried African dance and bachata. In 2016 she found her true passion: Lindy Hop and, shortly after, Collegiate Shag. Her motto “go with the flow” brought her to Freiburg to study neuroscience – and finally to The Lindy Corner. On the dance floor, what matters most to her is the connection with her partner, flowing with the music, swing, fun – and smiling. Piret teaches Collegiate Shag.
Kirstin & Robin
Kirstin and Robin are key figures in Freiburg’s blues scene: you’ll meet them at almost every blues dance event – and they organise quite a few of them themselves. At The Lindy Corner they teach Blues.
Astrid Wyble
Ever since Astrid swapped her football boots for dance shoes a few years ago, she has been infected with the swing virus. Her non-dancing friends, colleagues and family know it well: don’t count on her at weekends – there’s always a social, a workshop or a Lindy festival she simply can’t miss. What she loves most about swing dancing is the joy of life it gives you: in Lindy Hop everyone interprets the dance in their own way, and that’s exactly what makes communicating on the dance floor so exciting for her. Astrid assists Steve in the Intermediate class.
Maren Goettke
Maren discovered swing dancing before 2014 through university sports in Bremen and has since never missed a chance to dance through days and nights at local socials and international workshops all over Europe. In England and Bremen she soon started passing on her own love of dancing – and she infects everyone with her boundless energy and her constant enthusiasm for bounce. For her, Lindy Hop is less about lead and follow and more about two people communicating to the music: that’s what makes every dance unique. Maren now also teaches Balboa.
Lidia Miguel Telega
Lidia has been dancing since she was a little girl: flamenco, Spanish folk dance, salsa, bachata. In 2018 she caught Lindy fever, which she now passes on with great enthusiasm together with Steve in the Basics classes. Her dancing is all about individual expression and the joy of music and movement.
